Information as to the possibility of MRI-investigation for the patients
Implanted SINUS and CALIPSO medical devices are not a contraindication to MRI, provided that:
- Static magnetic field intensity is 1.5T;
- Maximum spatial gradient: 7T/m.
What is angioplasty?
Angioplasty is a procedure of opening the damaged artery using a thin catheter that has an expandable balloon on its tip. A stent is a mesh-like device implanted into the artery to help keep it open, thus ensuring the sufficient blood flow.
Coronary heart disease
CHD is narrowing of small blood vessels which supply blood and oxygen to the heart. CHD is also known as the disease of the coronary arteries. Usually, CHD is the reason of atherosclerosis resulting from the buildup of deposits of fatty substances (the so-called plaques) on the walls of arteries that leads to their narrowing thus reducing or blocking the blood flow to the heart. This can cause chest pain (angina), shortness of breath, heart attack and other symptoms.
Heart attack and acute coronary syndrome
The heart is a complex organ of the human’s body. Throughout the life, it keeps pumping blood, thus providing all body tissues with oxygen and essential nutrients via the arterial system. To perform this intensive task, the heart muscle itself needs the sufficient amount of the oxygen-rich blood which is supplied to it through the network of coronary arteries. These arteries carry the oxygen-rich blood to the wall of the heart muscle (myocardium).
